The 2017 Sundance Film Festival is only at the halfway point, and already a number of buzzworthy films have been sold. (Netflix has acquired several.) Plus, find out who will be releasing the rap comedy Patti Cake$, which critics say features a star-making performance from actress Danielle Macdonald.

• Fox Searchlight won the bidding war over Patti Cake$, scoring rights to director Geremy Jasper’s hip-hop comedy for a reported $10.5 million.

• Netflix continues its buying spree by plunking down $8 million for To the Bone. Keanu Reeves and Lily Collins star in this gritty drama about a young woman suffering from anorexia who enters a group recovery home.

• US Weekly spotted Malia Obama at Sundance shopping with a friend.

• Birth. Movies. Death raves about XX, the horror anthology film featuring four creepy tales helmed by female filmmakers. Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body) and musician St. Vincent (Annie Clark) are among the directors.
